How to Make a Computer Hard Drive Into an External Hard Drive Kit
If you no longer wish to use an internal desktop hard drive on its original computer, you can use an external hard drive enclosure to convert the drive from its internal interface to an external one. The most common external hard drive interfaces are USB and eSATA drives. The method you mount the hard drive in the enclosure depends on the hard drive enclosure you are using.

1
Open the external hard drive enclosure. Most external hard drives either have a few screws to remove on the drive to pop the cover off, or you just detach one side of the enclosure.
-
2
Connect the internal hard drive to the hard drive enclosure. The interface setup depends on the model of external hard drive enclosure you are using. Some enclosures allow you to slide your hard drive in to place in the enclosure, while others require a cable connection between the drive and the enclosure.
