How to Set Audible Bookmarks in iTunes

How to Set Audible Bookmarks in iTunes thumbnail
The iPod stores Audible files in the "Audiobooks" section of its Library.

Finding the point at which you left off listening to an audiobook can be a frustrating and time-consuming process. Fortunately, if you're listening to an Audible audiobook in iTunes, you can set a bookmark at the exact point at which you stopped the audiobook. When you start playing the Audible audiobook file again, iTunes resumes playback starting from the bookmark. The bookmarks that you set in iTunes also transfer to your iPod, meaning that you can listen to part of an audiobook on your computer, set an Audible bookmark, then resume listening from the same point on your iPod.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch iTunes. Click "Books" in the left-hand sidebar under "Library."

    • 2

Double-click the audiobook in which you want to set an Audible bookmark.

    • 3

Click and drag the slider under the audiobook's name to the point at which you want to set the Audible bookmark.

    • 4

Click the "Pause" button to set the bookmark.

Tips & Warnings

  • Sync your iPod to iTunes to update the bookmarks on the iPod.

  • To simulate an Audible bookmark on an MP3 file, enable "Remember Playback Position" in the "Options" section of its info screen. These bookmarks will not transfer between iTunes and an iPod, however.

  • Audible bookmarks only function on Audible files, which use the ".aa" extension, and iTunes Store audiobooks, which have an ".m4b" extension.
