How to Save OpenOffice As a RTF

When you submit a document to your boss or teacher, she often requires a specific document format. If you need to create a Rich Text Document, you can accomplish the task with OpenOffice Writer. Although documents are saved as "Open Document Text" files by default, you can choose to save the file as an RTF document without any additional plugins or software.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the document you want to save as an RTF file in OpenOffice Writer.

    • 2

Click "File" on the Writer toolbar, and select "Save As."

    • 3

Type a name for the .RTF file in the "File Name" text box and select a location to save the file.

    • 4

Click "Rich Text Format" in the "Save As Type" pull-down menu.

    • 5

      Click "Save."
