You can keep mosquitoes away from you using smoke bombs.

A fogger is a tool that can be used to keep mosquitoes and other flying insects away. Unlike other types of pesticide sprays, a mosquito fogger is non-toxic and doesn't harm the environment or human skin. Although they won't take care of your mosquito problem permanently, a fogger will keep them away while you are enjoying a barbecue or picnic, without the need to slather yourself in repellent. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Get a stable table and place it in an open area outside. Position the hot plate at the center of the table.

    • 2

Mix the potassium nitrate and sugar in a bowl. If you are planning to make a small amount of fog, use three cups of potassium nitrate and two cups of sugar. Mix six cups of potassium nitrate and four cups of sugar if you want to make more fog.

    • 3

Heat the mixture of potassium nitrate and sugar in a pan over the hot plate on medium heat. Stir the mixture every 30 seconds and continue heating the mixture until all the sugar has melted and it looks like peanut butter. If the mixture is turning black you are heating it at too high a temperature.

Cool the heated mixture. Take the foil and cut them into 20 small squares about 4-by-4-inches. Spoon the mixture onto the aluminum foil squares until it is all gone. Let it cool and harden on the foil. It will take approximately 48 hours, before it hardens completely. The hardened mixture will serve as your mosquito fogger.

Find an open area outside and away from your house where you can place the fogger that you have created. Light it with a match or a lighter. The fogger will start to produce smoke that will keep the mosquitoes away.

Tips & Warnings

  • While the smoke is non-toxic, it is probably best not to breath it in for hours. So if you are outside create a perimeter to keep the mosquitoes away by setting up the smoke bombs in a wide circle around you and setting up some outdoor fans at low setting. Put the fans near you to keep the smoke away.
