How to Look Up How Much LDS Tithing I Paid

In the LDS church, members pay 10 percent of their earnings in tithing.

“Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.” (Malachi 3:10) This scripture is just one of the things that encourages members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS) to pay tithing on their monthly income. Tithing helps provide funds for the church to build temples and church buildings, sponsor education programs and help the church operate. Tithing can be deducted as a charitable contribution on tax returns. If you haven’t received a statement from your bishopric telling you how much tithing you paid throughout the year, there are other ways you can find out.

Call your bishopric and ask the ward executive secretary for a copy of your tithing statement. He should have the dates you paid and the exact amount, along with your yearly total, on file. Pick up a copy at your meetinghouse or ask the ward secretary to mail it to you.

Contact your previous bishopric if you moved to a new ward. Request that a copy of your tithing statement be sent to your new address. Add the totals from that statement to the statement you receive from your current bishopric.

Add your monthly tithing payments together if you aren’t able to contact your bishopric before filing your taxes. If you wrote checks, you may have duplicates (or at least records) of the check you wrote each month. Find your monthly payments on the yellow copy of each tithing slip you filled out, if you kept them for your records.

Calculate 10 percent of your yearly income if you don’t have check records, duplicate tithing slips or a statement from your bishopric. Find your total income on the W2 provided by your employer at the end of the tax year. LDS tithing is typically 10 percent of all of your earnings. For example, you would pay $100 in tithing for every $1000 you earned throughout the year.
