How to Check the Link in Google AdSense

Check your own Google AdSense ads without risking an account ban.

If you've ever wanted to check a link from a Google AdSense ad running on your website then you might have faced a dilemma. Google AdSense expressly forbids webmasters and publishers from clicking their own ads to check links, because this artificially increases the cost to advertisers who pay for each ad click. Publishers who click on their own Google AdSense ad links risk losing their accounts permanently. To check Google AdSense ads on your own website, install and use the AdSense Preview Tool. This displays the ads running on your site, and you can click the link to check it without charging the advertiser.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch your Web browser and go to the AdSense Preview Tool download page.

    • 2

Right-click the download link, then select "Save Target As" from the context menu. Save the registry file to your computer's desktop screen.

    • 3

Double-click the Preview.reg file on the computer desktop.

    • 4

Click the "Yes" button in the installation confirmation window. This installs the downloaded file to the computer's registry. Restart Internet Explorer.

    • 5

Navigate to your website with the AdSense ads that you want to check.

    • 6

Right-click on any Web page running AdSense ads. Select "Google AdSense Preview Tool" from the context menu. This displays the ads in a separate pane. Click on the ad to check the link.

Tips & Warnings

  • In Step 6, right-click on the main Web page rather than within the AdSense display box on the page.

  • On some browsers, you might need to select "Save Link As" rather than "Save Target As" in Step 2.
