How to Draw Fantasy Buildings

Draw your own fantasy building using these simple steps.

If you've ever wanted to design your own building, but never thought you had the qualifications, think again. Use your imagination to design and draw your own fantasy building. Because it is a fantastical building, it doesn't have to adhere to architectural rules, and can be decorated to your whim. For this exercise, you will begin by drawing one of the signature fantasy buildings: a castle. After drawing the initial sketch, you can add details, as desired, to make the building unique.

Things You'll Need

• Paper
• Pencil
• Ruler

Instructions

1. Draw a series of rectangles ranging in different heights and thicknesses, using a ruler. These lines will be the outline for the castle's many towers. Use a reference picture as a guide to decide where you would like to position the towers.

2. Sketch an elongated triangle at the top of each rectangle to create the towers' pointed roofs.

3. Connect the towers together using a series of horizontal lines, to create the body of the castle.

4. Add several arched windows along each of the castle's towers.

5. Add details to the body of the castle. Use cross-hatched lines give texture to the tower roofs, and gridded lines to give the building a stony texture.

• Use colored pencil or pen to give your drawing a splash of color.
