How to Copy DVD9 to DVD5
DVDs come in two sizes, DVD9 which contains the capacity to hold 8.5 GB of data, and DVD 5 which only contains enough space for 4.5 GB. Because of the size difference, copying video data from one size to the other can prove problematic. It is possible however, as long as you use the correct software. A DVD copier capable of copying the contents of a DVD9 to DVD 5 does so in one of two ways. It either strips all extras from a disc, copying the main video presentation only with a single language track, or it compresses the video and audio present to fit it onto the smaller disc.
Instructions

-
1
Place a DVD9 containing video data into your PC DVD drive.
-
2
Begin the DVD copying application then enter into the DVD copy setup menu.
-
-
3
Select the DVD copy 5 option to inform the program that your output DVD is a single layered DVD5 disc rather than a dual layered DVD9.
-
4
Setup the copy parameters. Click "Source" and select the DVD drive containing the DVD9 disc. Click "Destination" and then select the drive that you wish to copy the disc to. You can select the same drive if you only have a single DVD drive present in your system, but the destination drive must be a DVD burner.
-
5
Select the copy mode if available. The copy mode allows you to choose to copy the fill sdisc, just the main movie, or split the DVD9 onto 2 DVD5 discs.
-
6
Click on the "Audio" selection to choose the default language used on the DVD. If the language is available on the disc, the program will use it as the menu and audio options for the newly burned disc. Complete the main setup by selecting "working Folder" and then directing the program to a folder on your hard drive to store data while copying from one disc to another. Your working folder must be on a drive with 5GB free to allow for the information storage.

Click "Start" to begin the copying operation. Type in the volume name for the new disc into the space provided then press "Burn" to verify the settings and start the software reading the disc. The software will read the data contained on the disc and copy the main video data along with the audio track containing the language selected to the hard drive. Once the program copies the data, the software will instruct you to switch the discs. Place a blank DVD5 disc into the destination drive to have the data burned onto the DVD5 disc. After completion remove and label the disc for use.
