Ingrown toenails may appear red and hot, and they are very painful.

When your child's toe appears red and hot, it is quite likely he has an ingrown toenail. This means that his toenail is growing into the skin and it can be very painful. Wearing shoes that are too tight can contribute to the occurrence of an ingrown toenail. Or your child may simply have toenails that grow in a downward direction. Either way, this is something easily treatable at home.
