How Can I Learn Hebrew Without Spending a Lot of Money?

Hebrew is one of the oldest languages.

Learning a new language like Hebrew can present a challenge, especially when you are on a budget. Hebrew is a language that requires much study, and without guidance and the proper tools, you can find yourself overwhelmed by too much information and too little instruction on where and how to begin. Fortunately, there are many websites available that can help you learn Hebrew in a structured, user-friendly environment. Your public library may offer additional tools to assist you in your learning process.

Instructions

1. Visit free online sites dedicated to teaching Hebrew. Select two or three websites that offer a variety of learning tools. One such site is Hebrew 4 Christians. This site offers free lessons on the Hebrew alphabet, grammar, prayers, and Hebrew words of the day with the correct pronunciation, spelling, and definitions. Another website that offers free Hebrew lessons is Ancient Hebrew Research Center, which offers step-by-step instructions on learning and writing the Hebrew alphabet.

2. Learn the alphabet first, then grammar, as this is the foundation to understanding any new language. Write the alphabet and grammar lessons into a notebook specifically designated for your Hebrew lessons. Cross reference the information from your websites to ensure accuracy. Review your notebook as often as possible to enhance learning.

3. Visit your public library. Ask the librarian to assist you in finding Hebrew language texts, guides, and audio books. Find titles that you are interested in on the Internet, then request that your local library order them.

4. Listen to people talk in Hebrew to gain a feel for the rhythm of the language. Visit Live 365, which offers free music streaming of Hebrew stations. Review Hebrew Psalms.org for free downloads of Hebrew music and psalms, or to listen to Hebrew radio stations. Find audio free audio books in Hebrew at the Books Should Be Free website.

Peruse the Foreign Service Institute Language Courses website, which contains public domain language courses developed by the U.S. Government. Start the Hebrew Basic Course, which contains over 40 audio lessons in Hebrew.
