How to Find Parole Status in Texas

State and federal law mandate the release of Texas offender information to the public.The Texas Department of Criminal Justice provides general offender information by internet, phone and e-mail. General information includes current address, crimes and convictions, incarcerations, estimated release dates and parole status. To obtain a offender's parole status, you must provide the offender's Texas Department of Criminal Justice number, birth date or State Identification number. If neither of these is available, you must provide the offender's precise date of birth.

      Access the Texas Department of Criminal Justice website (tdcj.state.tx.us) and select "Online Offender Search." Enter as much of the offender's information as possible. At a minimum, you need the offender's last name and initial of the first name along with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice number or the state identification number. The on-line offender search provides information for offenders currently incarcerated in a Texas criminal justice facility.

      Call the "Offender Parole Status Line" in Austin or Huntsville between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. This is not an automated line. The operator needs the Texas Department of Criminal Justice number or state identification number. If do not know the criminal justice or state identification number, provide the offender's birth date. The operator cannot provide parole status without the required information.

      E-mail your parole status request to the Parole Division at parole.div@tdcj.state.tx.us. Include the offender's name in the subject line of your email. State whether your request is urgent in the subject line. Provide the offender's information and explain the nature of your request in detail. Provide your contact information for a return response. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice suggests telephone requests for faster responses as an email response can take up to six weeks.
