How to Determine the Number of Back Links in Google

How to Determine the Number of Back Links in Google thumbnail
Backlinks are important for SEO in Google.

A website is only effective if people can find it, which is why Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is so important. One component of SEO involves backlinks. Backlinking refers to the number of external websites that link to your site. Every time a relevant site links to your page, Google gives your site more "weight," which results in a higher ranking on Google. The number of backlinks your Website has is one indicator of its popularity.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit the Google search engine and type link:site.com. For example, if you want to determine the number of backlinks for Amazon.com, type "link:amazon.com" in the search engine. The search results list the websites that have linked to your site. These results represent only a small sampling and will likely be incomplete.

    • 2

Type the URL of your website in quotes in the Google search engine; for example, type "amazon.com". The search results will list sites that have linked to you, as well as pages on your site that Google has indexed. Again, this may not reflect the latest linking information.

Use the Google Webmaster Tool for the most accurate backlinking information. Sign up for a Google account and visit the Google Webmaster Tools Website. Click on your URL link to navigate to the dashboard. Click the "Your Site On the Web" link in the left hand column, then click the "Links to Your Site" link beneath it. This will list the sites that most frequently link to your site and the most linked-to pages on your site.
