Move your texting from your phone to your iPod touch

Good news for frequent texters, you can download a texting app to your iPod touch and cut out texting fees from your cell provider. Free and paid texting apps are available with different features. Some require a free Google Voice account, but requirements vary by app. Your iPod needs to be connected to a Wi-Fi network to use texting apps.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the App Store on your touch.

    • 2

Tap the Search icon in the bottom menu and type "text" in the search field. Also search "SMS" for more texting options. SMS is another term for texting.

    • 3

Browse through the list of available texting apps. Tap an app name to read a description and reviews.

    • 4

Choose the texting app that offers the features you want. Tap the button marked "Free" or the price if it's not free.

    • 5

Enter your Apple ID password when prompted. It's the same password you use in any of Apple's stores. If you don't have an Apple ID you will be prompted to set up an account. Follow the prompts.

    • 6

Wait for the download to complete. When it's finished, the texting icon will appear in the next available spot on your home screen.

    • 7

Verify your iPod notifications are on. Go to "Settings" > "Notifications" and make sure the slider is turned to "On." This allows the app to notify you when a new message comes in.
