Mac's screen capture functionality is a handy way to snap images for future reference.

What PC users call a "print screen" is known as a "screen shot" on a Mac computer. And while there is a specific "Print Screen" key on a PC keyboard, Mac OS X uses keyboard shortcuts to create a screen shot. Screen shot functions on a MacBook yield either a snapshot of a selected part of the screen or the entire screen, depending upon the option you choose.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the image or portion of the screen you want to capture.

    • 2

Click "Command," "Shift" and the "3" key simultaneously on your keyboard. The utility will snap the entire screen. The image will be saved on your desktop as a .png formatted image. If this is the first screen shot you have taken since the last start up, it will appear as "Picture 1" on your desktop. Each subsequent screen shot will be numbered in consecutive order.

    • 3

Click "Command," "Shift" and the "4" key simultaneously on your keyboard. The cursor turns into a cross hair. Drag the cross hair across a specific portion of the image that you want to capture. The image will be placed on your desktop in the same .png format as when you capture the full screen.
