How to Get a Moorish Passport

How to Get a Moorish Passport thumbnail
The Moorish American National Republic grants citizenship and passports to descendants of slaves.

Timothy Drew -- known as Noble Drew Ali -- founded the Moorish Science Temple of America in 1913 on the conviction that all African Americans are of Moorish descent and thus are not citizens of the United States. According to Drew, all Moorish Americans were to carry a Moorish passport with their Moorish names, which he created by adding names of three fictitious Moroccan tribes -- Bey, El and Ali -- to the family names of his followers' slave ancestors. These Moors claim that African Americans are subject only to the laws of Morocco and not to those of the United States or its constitution. Moorish passports are obtainable by applying for Moorish American citizenship.

You will need two color passport photos with your name written on the back; in these photos, males must be wearing a red fez and females must be wearing a white turban. Women must wear all white clothing and must be completely covered.

Tips & Warnings

  • Fill out the form completely and truthfully. Make sure to follow all of the directions concerning what to wear for the passport photos to the letter; otherwise, you may be denied citizenship. When you receive your documents, sign them in medium red marker.

  • If your fez includes a tassel, you must wear it on the left side. If you have a pin that says "Allah" then you must pin this to your fez. Do not send original documents with your application and do not send black-and-white copies of those documents. If any document has two sides, you must send color copies of both sides.
