How to Create Twitter Trivia
By creating trivia contests on Twitter, businesses, websites and even individuals can interact with their followers -- as long as they don't go over the 140-character limit in their messages. Unlike some other contest types, trivia contests put all entrants on common ground since the contest is based on knowledge and not random chance. Giving away prizes for Twitter trivia contests encourages followers to play along and may lead to others following you to stay aware of future contests.

1
Announce your Twitter trivia contest in advance. Make an announcement at a minimum of an hour before the contest starts, but even better to announce it the day before the contest if possible. One or more announcements let followers know when to expect the contest and can lead to a higher participation rate.
-
2
Create a page on an external website with the rules and information on your trivia contest. Include the URL for the website in your announcement tweets, using a short URL from a URL redirect website if necessary. This allows you to explain the rules and list prizes without being limited to 140 characters per message.

3
Make an initial tweet at the start of the contest, giving an overview of how the contest will work and any prizes being offered. Use more than one tweet if necessary. This reminds followers that the contest is starting and gives them instructions on how to enter.
-
4
Tweet your first trivia question after giving your instructions. Wait a set period of time such as three to five minutes before tweeting the next question. Continue tweeting your trivia questions at regular intervals until all questions have been asked.
-
5
Specify a hashtag related to your contest that entrants should include in their answer tweets. Choose something simple yet unique, such as "#contest_x" or "#MyTrivia"; you can also use your company or website name as a hashtag.
-
6
Enter the hashtag you created into the search box at the top of the Twitter home page to check the answers to the trivia questions. Take note of the Twitter IDs associated with each correct answer; award the prize or prizes to the one or more users with the largest number of correct answers.
-
7
Contact the winners by direct message, including your email address in the message so that they can contact you with personal information such as their email addresses or shipping addresses. Announce the winners' Twitter IDs in a tweet, but do not attempt to collect personal information using Twitter.

Tips & Warnings
In addition to using hashtags you can instruct entrants to respond to the individual questions so that each response contains your "@" Twitter username. You can browse through all of you @ responses by clicking the "@Mentions" tab on the Twitter home page.
Don't ask entrants to repost the same message multiple times to promote your trivia contest as this violates the Twitter terms of service.
