How to Export Music to an iPod From Another iPod

Use iPod transfer software to export your music collection to another iPod.

If you own more than one Apple iPod, you can export your music collection between iPods. Various types of free iPod transfer software are available on the Internet that you can download and install on your computer. After you've installed the iPod transfer software on your system, you will be able to copy and group songs by Artist, Genre or Album. Then drag and drop your music collection onto your other iPod.

Instructions

1. Download a free iPod transfer software application on your computer. Choose an application that is capable of optimizing the storage space on your iPod, so that you can store more songs.

2. Double-click the iPod transfer software icon to install the application files on your computer. Before you begin, make certain that you close any applications that are running on your computer. After the installation is complete, look for the iPod transfer icon on your desktop. Double-click on it to launch the application.

3. Connect your first Apple iPods into a USB or Firewire port on your computer. The iPod transfer software may take several seconds to detect and display the song tracks on your iPod. After your music collection appears on the software's interface, look for a tab button that is labeled as "iPod 1" on the left-pane. The right-pane will display the song tracks and a tab button labeled as "iPod 2" for your second iPod.

4. Move your mouse over a song track and right-click on it to open the drop-down menu. Select an option from the menu list that you want to perform. For example, select "Play" to listen to the selected song track. Or, select "Find Duplicate Songs" to locate any duplicate songs on your iPod. If you want to remove a song track select "Delete Selection" from the menu list.

5. Connect your second Apple iPod into a USB or Firewire port on your computer. Click on a song track shown under "iPod 1" in the left-pane that you want to transfer to your other iPod.

6. Click the "Arrow" button pointing to the right-pane to automatically transfer a song track to "iPod 2." If you want to transfer a song track from the right-pane shown under "iPod 2," click the "Arrow" button pointing to the left-pane for iPod 1.

7. Unplug your iPod devices from your computer when you are finished transferring your music collections between your iPods.
