An application letter is needed to apply for many jobs.

MS Word, or Microsoft Word, is a computer program that you can use to write an application letter to apply for a job. All application letters should be professionally typed out using a word processing program, and Microsoft Word is just one option that you can choose. Application letters, or cover letters, outline some of your key qualifications for the job to help you get an interview.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the "Page Layout" option in the MS Word document. From here, set the margins to one inch all the way around and set the spacing between lines to "0 pt."

    • 2

Add the date, followed by your name and contact information. Make it as easy as possible for the employer to find your contact information and call you for an interview.

    • 3

Type the employer's name and contact information under your own.

    • 4

Explain what position you are applying for, and how you heard of the job in the first paragraph. Include the name and position of any person that recommended you apply.

    • 5

Give some details about your past experiences and qualifications in the second paragraph. Keep this to three or four sentences and include only the qualifications or experience that are most relevant to the position.

    • 6

Thank the employer for taking a look at your resume, which you should send with the application letter. Include information about the best way to contact you and when you're available for an interview.

    • 7

Type your closing, such as "Sincerely," and your name at the bottom. Skip about four spaces between the closing and your name. This is where you should sign the letter with blue or black ink.

    • 8

Add the word "Enclosure" to the bottom of the application letter, if you're sending your resume along with it.
