How to Change FOV in COD WAW

Call of Duty: World at War, also known as COD 5 or WAW, has a default field of view (FOV) of 65 degrees. You can raise or lower the FOV to preference. Multiplayer games reset your FOV when you move, so you have to use a different method than you would as a single player. To use either method, you must enable the console. If you don’t know how to turn the console on, read the first section. If you already know how, you can skip to the section specific to your playing mode.

Turn on Console

Launch Call of Duty: World at War.

Click “Options & Controls.”

Click “Game Options.”

Click “Enable Console.”

Click the “Back” button twice to return to the main menu.

Refer to the next two sections of this article, and follow the steps for changing your FOV in either single player mode or multiplayer mode.

Single Player

Launch Call of Duty: World at War.

Press the “~” key, usually located above the "tab" button on your keyboard, to bring up the console.

Type “devmap ‘mapname,’” and press “Enter” to launch the map you want to play. Example: If you want to play the first mission, which takes place on Makin Atoll, type “devmap mak” into the console. If you don’t know the file names of the maps, you can find lists online (see Resources).

Bring up the console again once the map loads.

Type “cg_fov ‘number.’” For example, if you want to change your fov to 90, type “cg_fov 90.”

Press “Enter.”

Multiplayer

Launch Call of Duty: World at War.

Join a multiplayer game.

Press the “~” key, usually located above the "tab" key, to open the console.

Type “bind ‘forward movement key’ +forward;cg_fov ‘number’” to make your forward key both move you and change the field of view. Example: The default forward movement key is “w,” so type “bind w +forward;cg_fov 80” to make the “w” key both move you forward and change your field of view to 80 degrees.

Press “Enter.”

Tips

You can only adjust the FOV on the PC version of the game.

Warnings

Most multiplayer servers block players using a field of view higher than 80 degrees. Raising your FOV may drop your frame rate, resulting in more lag.
