How to Connect to Facebook on Pidgin
Pidgin is a multi-protocol instant messaging application available on Windows, Mac and Linux that provides full support for connecting to the Facebook Chat platform. Once the application is configured, you can chat with friends and family through the Facebook protocol without the need for opening a Web browser and navigating to the Facebook home page.

Click "Start," type "Pidgin" in the search box at the bottom of the menu, then press "Enter." If you do not have Pidgin installed on your computer, navigate to pidgin.im to download the free software.

Click "Accounts" and select "Manage Accounts."

Click "Add."

Select "Facebook (XMPP)" from the "Protocol" drop-down menu, enter your Facebook user name and password, then select the "Advanced" tab.

Select "Use encryption if available" from the "Connection Security" drop-down menu, set the "Connect Port" to "5222" and the "Connect Port" to "chat.facebook.com," then click "Save."

Click "Close" to return to the contacts pane. Your Facebook contacts will be displayed in Pidgin and you can start a conversation with online contacts by double-clicking their name.
