How to Replace the Thermocouple in a Nordyne
Replacing the thermocouple of the Nordyne furnace is a job that you can complete in less than an hour. The thermocouple is responsible for opening and closing the gas valve on the furnace to prevent gas from leaking out if the pilot is not working properly. Occasionally, the thermocouple can wear out, requiring that you replace it immediately for the furnace to work efficiently. You can replace the thermocouple yourself with just a screwdriver. Turn off the circuit breaker to the Nordyne furnace at the breaker box. Locate the thermocouple and burner assembly at the base of the furnace. Unfasten the screws that secure the burner plate to the furnace, using a Phillips screwdriver.

Take the burner plate off the furnace. Note the location of the thermocouple in relation to the pilot light before removing the thermocouple. Detach the thermocouple from the pilot and remove it from the burner assembly.

Discard the old thermocouple. Insert a new thermocouple into the burner assembly and attach the new thermocouple to the pilot. Fasten the burner plate to the furnace with screws.

Turn the circuit breaker back on for the Nordyne furnace at the breaker box.
