How to Fix Explorer.exe on a Compaq Presario 5000

Click "Run as Administrator" in the drop-down menu that appears. If the User Account Control prompt appears, enter the administrator password for the computer. A command prompt window will appear.

Type "sfc /scannow" in the window without the quotation marks. Note the space after "sfc." The process will begin to analyze the system files and repair any files that have been damaged.
