How to Draw a Disposable Diaper

Draw tiny leaves, flowers, or ducks on the diapers to dress them up.

Disposable diapers were first invented by Connecticut housewife, Marion Donovan, hitting the shelves of Saks Fifth Avenue in 1949. She then adapted the diapers to absorb liquid while also keeping it away from baby's sensitive skin. In 1961, Victor Mills turned Donovans' invention into a household staple when he started Pampers. Learning to draw a disposable diaper can be a unique way to pay homage to Marion Donovan while also dressing up those baby scrapbooks. It will also add a little modesty to the carefree toddlers you're drawing or just be a fun drawing exercise.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a horizontal ellipse. Draw a line parallel to the bottom edge of the ellipse, below it and the same length. Draw another line, parallel to the top edge of the ellipse, and inside of the shape. Connect the ends of the second parallel line to the right and left sides of the ellipse.

    • 2

Connect the bottom parallel line to the ellipse with short vertical lines. Draw a vertical line from the closest edge of the ellipse down below the parallel line. Start the vertical line a quarter of the way in from the right side of the ellipse.

    • 3

Draw a circle down from the bottom of the vertical line. Draw a curved line inside of the circle from the bottom right and left sides.

    • 4

Draw a vertical line down from the right edge of the ellipse as far as the first vertical line was drawn. Continue this vertical line by drawing a large U around the circle. Draw another vertical line, the same length, from the left edge of the ellipse.

    • 5

Continue the second vertical line by curving downward and to the right until it reaches the base of the U.

    • 6

Draw a short curved line parallel to the ellipse, from the end line of the U. Draw a line parallel to the U, starting at the end of the curved line and down until it meets the line in Step 5.

    • 7

Draw a quarter circle inside the left half of the ellipse, starting and ending on the line of the ellipse.

Tips & Warnings

  • Shade inside of the ellipse, except for the quarter circle, to create space in the diaper. Color the diaper with gender indicative colors like light pink, yellow, blue and green.
