How to Run PowerPoint on a Mac

You can open any PowerPoint presentation created on a Windows PC on a Mac by using the PowerPoint for Mac application. If you've ever used the PowerPoint application on a PC, you should have no trouble adopting to the Mac version. If you are new to PowerPoint, learn how to use this software on your Mac by studying the tutorials available from PowerPoint's Help menu.

  1. Installing PowerPoint

      Purchase Microsoft Office for Mac, or download a free 30-day trial to your computer (see Resources).

      Launch the downloaded file, or insert the DVD into your disc drive. Follow the installation instructions to install PowerPoint.

      Double-click on any PowerPoint file to run it with PowerPoint. To open PowerPoint itself, click the "Applications" folder in the Finder, then the "Microsoft Office" folder. Double-click "Microsoft PowerPoint" to launch the application.

    Create a Basic PowerPoint Document

      Launch PowerPoint from the Dock, or launch it in Finder from the "Microsoft Office" folder in "Applications."

      Click "Themes" in the PowerPoint Presentation Gallery, then click "All." Select "White" and click "Choose." A single slide blank presentation opens.

      Click on the "Title" or "Subtitle" text fields on the slide to add text to the slide. Click on a text field and delete it if you do not need it.

      Drag any images from the Finder directly to the slide to paste them. Click on a corner of the image and drag it with the mouse to re-size it. Click on the center of the image and drag it to move the image.

      Insert additional slides by clicking the "Home" tab. Click "Slides," then click "New Slide." Select any of the slide templates by clicking on them. To duplicate a slide, click "Insert" and "Duplicate Slide."

      Select any slide from the menu on the left to see it in the main window. You can only edit slides from the main window.

      Save the PowerPoint document by clicking the "File" menu, then selecting "Save."
