How Can I Get Wi-Fi That I Can Use Anywhere on My iPod Touch?
Several companies offer "MiFi" or "Peel" devices that provide portable Wi-Fi service for your iPod Touch. A MiFi device is a small portable Wi-Fi modem a little larger than a credit card. Peel devices attach directly to the back of your iPod Touch. Both options provide a constant Wi-Fi connection. At the time of publication, Sprint, Verizon and Virgin Mobile are just three of the providers that offer one or both of these devices. MiFi or Peel service plans vary by provider.

1
Research MiFi and Peel plans. Service plans vary widely. Virgin Mobile offers pay-as-you go plans from $10 to $50 per month while cellphone providers offer standalone or bundle deals with existing service plans.
-
2
Choose the device and provider that offers what you need. MiFi can support multiple iPod Touches or computers at once, while Peel supports just the iPod Touch. Choose a service plan that offers enough data usage for your needs.

Negotiate. If you're adding MiFi to a cellphone plan, ask if there's a discount available on the modem or ask for a month-to-month plan instead of a contract.
-
4
Connect your iPod Touch to your MiFi or Peel network just as you would any other Wi-Fi network. The only difference is you carry the modem with you in your pocket or bag.

Tips & Warnings
Mobile broadband rentals are also available if you need only short-term or temporary portable Wi-Fi for your iPod Touch. Companies such as XCom Mobile and others provide short-term MiFi rentals around the world. This is especially useful for overseas vacations.
In most cases you won't be able to switch a MiFi modem from one provider to the next. So, if you buy a Verizon modem don't expect to use it on the Virgin network or vice versa.
