How to Save Seeds From a Potato
Seed potatoes are ideal for planting because they are smaller than traditional potatoes. Small potatoes left over from a harvest can also be used. If the seeds from traditional potatoes are taken care of properly, they can also yield a strong potato crop. Things You'll Need
- Potato plants
- Scissors
- Sharp knife
- Bowl
- Water
- Blender (optional)
- Strainer
- Paper towels

Harvest potatoes when they are soft to the touch by cutting them off the roots. Inside the fruit are the seeds that need to be saved.

Cut whole potatoes into quarters and place the pieces in a bowl. Cover with water and allow to sit overnight. The seeds should sink to the bottom of the bowl. You can also drop potatoes into a blender and pulse to remove the seeds.

Drain the water to separate the seeds from the pulp.

Rinse the seeds to be sure they are clean.

Lay the seeds on paper towels to air dry. Store the dry seeds in a cool, dry place.
