How to Decorate Zip Up Binders

How to Decorate Zip Up Binders thumbnail
Decorate your zipper binder so it's not plain and boring.

Before heading back to school in the fall, decorate your binder so it stands out as a work of art. The large zipper binders are great for students, because papers don't fall out when it is closed. Decorate it just like you would any other binder with magazine pictures, paint pens or stickers. Decorations made with semi-permanent items will hold up well over time, but are still relatively easy to remove and change out.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw shapes, designs and words on the front and back cover of the binder using paint pens. You can buy the pens at most craft stores for just a few dollars, and they come in many different colors. Write your name and homeroom, or simply decorate with squiggles, swirls and different designs.

Create a 3D effect on your binder by using foam shapes. You can purchase the shapes in theme packs, so you can have a beachy binder, or an array of stars. You can also buy foam sheets and cut out your own shapes and letters. Glue them with craft glue so they stay secure.

Put stickers all over your binder. Glow in the dark stickers, 3D stickers, glitter stickers and word stickers can all make a statement. Decals and bumper stickers are also great for sending a message through your artwork.

Cut out pictures from magazines showing your favorite actors or singers. You can also cut out words and phrases from magazines. To make it more personal, use photos of yourself and your friends. Use a small piece of double-sided tape to affix them to the binder. Once they are all in place, cover the entire front and back of the binder with clear packing tape to protect the photos.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make your binder decorations a reflection of who you are.

  • Do not cover the zipper with decorative items, or you will not be able to open and close the binder.
