How to Tie a Turk Head Knot on a Whip

A whip is traditionally made out of braided leather strands.

A Turk's head knot is a decorative knot that is created by weaving and looping a single strand of rope. There are several different styles of Turk's head knot, each one is identified by the number of loops and turns in the knot. A Turk's head knot can be crafted around the handle or end of a whip; it can also be used in macrame jewelry making projects. The Turk's head knot can be created out of any type of flexible rope, such as paracord, hemp or a strand of leather hide.

Instructions

1. Measure and cut a piece of rope that is 20 inches long. Wrap the beginning of the rope over, under and back around the whip. Wrap the long end of rope under the whip and bring it back over the first pass, then tuck it underneath the second pass.

2. Rotate the whip 180 degrees. You should see two parallel ropes and the loose end of the whip. Pull the parallel piece of rope on the right-hand side over the left-hand rope.

3. Lift the loose end of the cord over the rope that is now on the left-hand side, tuck it underneath the right-hand cord. Wrap the rope back over the edge of the whip.

4. Roll the whip 180 degrees so that the end of the loose rope end is facing towards you. Cut the end of the rope leaving about 1 inch of rope loose. Tuck the end of the rope back underneath the Turk head knot.
