How to Protect Yourself From Noise Pollution
Noise pollution is defined by the Environmental Protection Agency as "unwanted or disturbing sound." When sound interferes with the normal activities of everyday life, such as conversation, sleep or quality of life in general, it is referred to as noise pollution. The EPA has reported that noise pollution can contribute to stress, high blood pressure, hearing loss, speech interference and sleep disruption. There are some precautions you can take against noise pollution.

Wear ear plugs in areas with high concentrations of noise. If you are affected by noise when you are trying to sleep, try ear muffs or other non-invasive forms of hearing protection. A cap that goes over your ears will filter some excessive noise.

Listen to music at low volumes. Don't stand too close to stereo speakers. At concerts, avoid the front of the stage where the volume is the loudest, or wear ear plugs.

Keep your cellphone volume at a minimum. Use the speaker phone feature when it's possible.

Protect your home from outside noise by insulating your windows and doorways.
