How to Make Swiss Braids
Swiss braids are braids that circle the head like a crown. This style is a good way to keep longer hair out your face, and is ideal for a Santa Lucia festival of lights celebration, a medieval costume or a Renaissance fair. Longer hair makes for a more dramatic braid, but this style is possible as long as your hair falls a little below your shoulders. Swiss braids are a straightforward hair style that is quick to do at home. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Divide your hair into two segments at the nape of your neck, with one segment to the right and one segment to the left.
-
2
Use a comb to separate the trailing wispy hair at your nape bringing them to one side or the other. The more neat the divide, the more tidy your braids will be.
-
-
3
Divide one segment of hair into three parts and braid it, securing the end with a hair elastic.
-
4
Repeat Step 3 for the other segment.
-
5
Bring one braid over your, one or two inches above your hair line.
-
6
Secure the braid to your head by using bobby pins to catch a small amount of hair in the braid and attaching it to the hair that is flat against your head.
-
7
Bring the other braid over your head as well. If your hair is short, simply bring it up to meet the first braid close to the center of the top of your head. If your hair is long, lay it behind the first braid.

Tips & Warnings
To add a little bit of color, thread a yarn needle with thin ribbon and sew the braids to your head loosely rather than pinning them. Start sewing at the crown of your head and then sew all the way back around, tying the ends together in a bow.
