How to Write a Recommentation Letter to Hire a Consultant thumbnail
Write a letter to promote a consulting project that will improve the firm's operations.

Recommendation letters can be the difference between a consultant being awarded a project or not. Businesses, governments and nonprofits all use consultants to efficiently improve and add to their operations. A professional letter includes a background about the consultant, a few key reasons why the consultant should be hired and a case study or anecdote about the consultant's work history. Write a recommendation letter that will provide tangible reasons to hire the firm or person.

Instructions

    • 1

Review the consultant's accomplishments, credentials and history. Ask the consultant to supply all of this information as well as any other materials that he has submitted for the proposal. You do not want to include duplicate information if possible.

    • 2

Address the letter using formal business formatting. Catch the reader's attention with an eye-catching opening line that highlights the success and achievements of the consultant. Use the remaining sentences in the paragraph to succinctly state that you believe the consultant would be the best applicant for the project.

    • 3

Over the next paragraph or two, describe the background and history of the consultant. Provide the credentials which verify her ability to complete the project. Credentials include both education and work experience. Include how you know the consultant.

    • 4

Include a paragraph with an anecdote of the consultant's work if possible. Provide an example directly relating to the project at hand. If the consultant will be designing a bridge, give an example of a time he designed and built a similar type bridge. Try to quantify the impact of the consultant in terms of time or money saved.

    • 5

Conclude the letter with a summary of the applicant's best qualities. Succinctly restate your endorsement and your most convincing reasoning. Allow the recipient to follow up with you for further discussion.
