Even Children Can Decoupage a Wooden Letter

Decoupage is a craft that uses glue to permanently bond paper and fabric to three-dimensional surfaces. You can decoupage pictures to wooden letters to create decorations for a child's room or a wedding, or as a gift. Choose family pictures or magazine photos to make a design. Use pictures that have a theme, such as close-up pictures of your children's faces, or vacation photos.

Instructions

    • 1

Ensure that the wooden letter is free from burrs and dust. Sand any rough spots, and wipe clean with a damp cloth. Consider painting the letter first. Allow it to dry for 24 hours before decoupaging.

    • 2

Select the pictures and photos you are going to use. Cut the images into small pieces with scissors, or tear them for a smoother finish.

    • 3

Paint with decoupage glue over a portion of the wooden letter. Lay a picture on top. Make sure there are no bubbles or wrinkles, and use your fingers to smooth out the surface.

    • 4

Paint with decoupage glue on top of the picture. Continue to decoupage the letter by repeating this process until the surface is covered.

    • 5

Paint a layer of decoupage glue over the whole letter. Once this has dried for 5 to 6 hours, apply a coat of acrylic sealant.

Tips & Warnings

  • Cut the pictures at an angle for a smoother transition between pieces.
