How to Create Your Own Adjustable Shelves for a Linen Closet
Adjustable shelving provides a much greater degree of flexibility in your storage spaces, like linen closets. Being able to move the shelves and space them as you desire lets you accommodate evolving storage needs over time. - Tape measure
- Pencil
- Level
- Hollow wall anchors and screws
- Screwdriver
- Adjustable shelving standards
- Adjustable shelving brackets
- Shelving boards
- Circular saw

Stretch a tape measure from top to bottom along the linen closet's back wall and measure the height. Stretch the tape measure across the back wall and measure the width. Mark the wall with a pencil every 2 feet across the back wall.

Purchase adjustable shelf standards for the wall. You'll want standards that match the height of the back wall, with one standard for every 2 feet of width. Purchase brackets, calculating one bracket for every 2 feet of shelving.

Draw a vertical line on the back wall with a pencil and level at each of the pencil marks. Place a standard along each line and mark the position of the screw holes in the standard onto the wall.

Screw a hollow wall anchor into the wall at each of the marked locations. Place the standards on the wall, lined up with the anchors, and screw them onto the wall.

Clip your brackets onto the standards and lay shelving boards onto the brackets. Cut the boards to match the width of your closet. if necessary.
