How to Make a Zombie with Clay

Make your own spooky zombie figurine with polymer clay.

Sculpt a terrifying zombie miniature with polymer clay. Polymer clay becomes hard after being baked in a conventional oven, so you can create and finish the zombie figurine at home. This type of clay also comes in many different colors that you can blend to fashion custom colors, making it possible to create a sickly skin tone or dirty zombie clothes without the need for paint. Find polymer clay in different colors in the craft store.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the two ends of a thin wire coat hanger with bolt cutters to detach it from the rest of the hanger. This is the wire that will make up the "skeleton" of the clay zombie. Loop the middle of the wire over your finger and bend it in half. Measure about 1 inch down from the bend and widen it slightly to form an oval for the head. Twist the wires together three times to make the neck.

    • 2

Bend the wires apart and down to make the shoulders and the arms. Bend the arms at the elbows in a distorted, zombie-like pose. Look at images of zombies in movies or illustrations to get ideas for a pose for the clay zombie. Twist the wire skeleton down to make the torso and the legs.

    • 3

Press a 2-inch ball of dark brown polymer clay down on a piece of wax paper on a cookie sheet. This is the "dirt" base so the zombie has something to stand on and hold it in place. Stick the ends of the zombie skeleton's legs in the base so that it stands upright on its own.

    • 4

Mold green, gray and light beige polymer clay blocks together to get the dead color for the zombie's skin. Build up the clay around the head, and mold the ends of the arms from the elbows to the hands. Mold the clay around the ends of its legs to make the feet. Mold light gray clay around the zombie's torso and upper arms to form a ragged shirt and dark brownish-black on the legs for pants.

    • 5

Form a distorted face on the zombie with a mouth that hangs open and a turned-up, pointy nose. Press two shallow holes in the face to make eye sockets. Role two white or light yellow clay balls and gently press them into the eye sockets to make a pair of dead blank eyeballs.

    • 6

Preheat a conventional oven to the temperature on the package for your brand of polymer clay. Put the cookie sheet with the zombie in the oven and bake for the time in the instructions on the package for the clay. Remove the cookie sheet when the time is up and let it cool for 1 hour before handling and displaying your clay zombie.
