How to Draw the Superdome of Louisiana

Curves are necessary to depict the stadium's circular structure and its arc.

The Louisiana Superdome is a massive domed sports and exhibition complex in New Orleans, Louisiana. Completed in August 1975, it is famous as the home of the New Orleans Saints, the venue of six Super Bowls and where Muhammad Ali became World Heavyweight Champion for the third time in 1978. It also served as an infamous shelter during Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Drawing the Superdome is not a difficult task, as the structure itself has a quite simple design. However, you must be accustomed with using a compass and understanding arc degrees - the degrees of the hypothetical circle's central angle.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a straight line measuring 10 inches (name the left end A and the right B, using a pencil). Form an identical line 2 inches below the first one - name it C, D.

    • 2

Design a third line right between the other two, starting 1/2 inch after them and ending 1/2 inch before them - name it E, F.

    • 3

Form straight lines to connect points A to E, E to C, B to F and F to D. Continue drawing straight lines between the three arcs, leaving 1/2 inch space between them to imitate the design of the stadium's side.

    • 4

Make a 90-degree arc on top of the design using a compass, starting marginally after spot A, and finishing right before spot B. On a clock, 90 degrees is approximately the distance between 11 and 2.

    • 5

Use a pale gold coloring pen for the side of the stadium, while leaving the dome white. Use a black marker for the distinctive windows on the side of the structure.

Tips & Warnings
