How to Draw the Hand in Motion
When drawing hands, it is helpful to be able to depict movement. In general the faster the hand moves the less detail should be added. The viewer does not see the details when things, such as hands, are moving and therefore it appears blurry. Drawing where the hand has been will create a ghostly effect as it shows the viewer the movement of the hand. Artists will also use curved lines on both sides of the hand to depict movement. The more curved lines, the faster the movement.

1
Determine the types of movement that hand will do, such as waving, playing an instrument or tapping a cigar.
-
2
Draw the moving hand in mid-motion. For example, if the hand is waving, determine the range of motion and then draw the hand at the mid-point.
-
-
3
Blur the hand or area of the hand in motion such as the fingers playing an instrument.
-
4
Create an added effect by sketching blurred ghost copies of where the hand has been. For example, the finger in mid-air before it touches the instrument.
-
5
Emphasize the movement by adding curved lines on both sides of the hand to depict motion. If the movement is small, such as playing an instrument, just add one set of curves. For medium movement, such as waving a hand, add two sets of curves. Add additional curves to depict faster movement.
