Tom Tom 1340 Instructions

The Tom Tom 730 is often mistaken for and compared to the Garmin 1340, both of which are GPS systems with similar features.   1. Planning a Route

      Turn on the TomT om and tap the screen anywhere to access the main menu using the stylus.

      Tap the "Navigate to..." button found in the upper left corner of the main menu with the stylus.

      Tap the "Address" button found in the upper right corner of the screen using the stylus.

      Type in the name of the city by taping on the corresponding letters on the keyboard portion of the screen. Usually, only the first few letters are necessary before city name appears. Tap the name when it appears on the screen.

      Enter the first few letters of the street name and then tap it when it appears on the screen.

      Enter the house or business number and tap the "Done" button to calculate the route.

      Turn on the Tom Tom and tap the screen to access the main menu.

      Tap the "Change Preferences" button found on the main menu.

      Tap the right arrow button to access the next preferences page.

      Tap the "Enable/Disable POI" button on the screen and place a check mark in the box corresponding to the points of interests to appear on the Tom Tom during planned routes. For example, if you would like the Tom Tom to point out museums or restaurants, tap the corresponding boxes for museums and restaurants to place a check mark.

      Tap the "Done" button and the selected points of interest will now appear on the map.

Tips & Warnings

  • While driving, pay attention to the vocal instructions instead of checking the Tom Tom screen. If you take a wrong turn, the Tom Tom will automatically adjust and give commands to get back on track.

  • Do not leave the Tom Tom on the dash in your car when not using it. It is an easy target for thieves.
