How to Pour Vase Art
Turn a plain clear vase into a visually stunning work of art using sand and a funnel. Sand art is often associated with brightly colored sand, plastic bottles and young children, but it's an art form for all ages that can add to your decor. Naturally colored sand comes in many shades, from nearly white to nearly black for layering. If you travel to different beaches, collect sand for your art as you go -- you may be surprised at how much the color of the sand varies.
Instructions

1
Wash and dry the vase thoroughly.
-
2
Hold the funnel over the mouth of the vase and pour one color of sand in. Move the funnel in a circle to distribute it evenly, or hold it in one place for a few seconds to create a buildup of sand in one place.

3
Pour the net shade of sand over the first. Repeat, switching between shades of sand, to make a layered effect.
-
4
Push a bamboo skewer, pointed side down, between the layered sand and the glass to create waves.

Tips & Warnings
If you have sands of different textures, pour the more fine-grained sand on the bottom, with the coarser sand on top.
If you're using one dark and one light shade of sand, you can make a middle shade by blending some of each.
Place your vase art away from pets and small children.
