How to Rewind an Awning
If you want to let more sunlight into your home or recreational vehicle, you can rewind the awnings. This is a simple procedure and takes less than ten minutes to complete. It is also a good idea to retract awnings during severe thunderstorms or other exceptional weather events to prevent them from tearing or coming loose and becoming flying projectiles. Though retractable awnings come in variety of sizes and colors, they all rewind in much the same way. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Unfasten the retraction strap at the edge of the awning.
-
2
Lift up on the height adjustment levers and let the awning's telescope arms collapse. Once the arms have hit the stop position, flip the adjustment levers into the lock position.
-
-
3
Loosen the rafter arm knobs. Undo the rafter arm "catch," found where the rafter arms meet the telescope arms at the corner edges of the awning.
-
4
Slide the rafter arms toward the exterior wall or outside of the recreational vehicle.
-
5
Grasp the retraction strap and pull slightly away from the exterior wall (or outside of the recreational vehicle) until it begins to retract on its own. Hold the strap in place and hook the awning rod to its end. Gently release the strap, holding the rod in your hand. The awning will rewind into its "travel" or "closed" position.
-
6
Tighten or switch the lock knobs/levers to keep the awning in position.
