Use the "Site Manager" to export site settings to a new computer.

For each website you work on, Adobe Dreamweaver requires special configuration to tell it where the files for the site are located and the user details for connecting to the site's servers. This system makes it easier for Web designers who work on a number of different websites, allowing them to move quickly between sites. If you purchase a new computer, you can use the Dreamweaver "Site Manager" to export the site settings from your old computer. You can then import the settings into Dreamweaver on the new computer, saving you from having to set up all the sites again manually.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch Adobe Dreamweaver using the Windows Start menu.

    • 2

Click on the "Site" menu, and then click "Manage Sites."

    • 3

Click on the site to export. Select multiple sites for export by holding down the "Ctrl" key and clicking on each site to highlight it. Select sites in blocks by clicking on the first site, and then holding down the "Shift" key and clicking on the last site. This selects all sites between the first and last sites.

    • 4

Click on the "Export" button. Select the type of export to perform, and then click "OK." You can backup all details for site, including login information, or just the site setup without user names and passwords.

    • 5

Select the location on your computer's hard disk to store the exported site file, and then click the "Save" button to export the site. The export process creates a file with the extension ".ste," which should then be copied to the new computer.

    • 6

Launch Dreamweaver on the new computer, and then open the "Site Manager." Click on the "Import" button and select the exported site file. Click "OK" to import the site settings and add the site to Dreamweaver.
