How to Make Different Icons on Facebook Chat

Facebook's social networking functions, such as its online chat utility, may make communication between yourself and friends easier, but it does not always make it clearer. When you are limited to chatting in text format on Facebook, emotions can be difficult to convey, and sarcasm or a joke even harder. That's why Facebook allows users to insert a variety of emotive icons, or emoticons, into their chat conversations. These icons display color facial expressions that can give conversant clues as to how you are feeling. Using specific key combinations, you can create these icons and send them to your friends.

Instructions

1. Navigate to the Facebook homepage.

2. Log in to your account.

3. Click on "Chat" at the bottom of the screen.

4. Click on the name of a contact in the chat list to open a chat window.

5. Type each key of a specific combination to create the icon of your choice. Lists of accepted emotion icons can be found at calebbrown.id.au/blog/2008/04/complete-list-facebook-chat-emoticons.

6. Press "Enter" when finished to send your chat and have Facebook convert the key combination into a color icon.
