How to Keep Icicle Lights From Getting Tangled

The holiday season is a time of friends, food and spending hours hanging Christmas lights on the family home. Icicle lights feature small bulbs on short strings hanging down from the main wire. They are meant to mimic icicles hanging from the eaves of your house. Once the lights come down, don't throw them in a box and forget about them. This will lead to hours spent untangling the lights. Save yourself from frustration next winter by taking extra time now to store your icicle lights tangle free. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Separate the strands of icicle lights and lay each one out on the floor.

    • 2

Secure one end of the icicle light strand to the end of an empty cardboard Christmas wrapping tube using a piece of tape.

    • 3

Wind the main light strand around the cardboard tube, allowing the short icicle strings to hang free. Once the main light strand is completely wound, secure the end to the tube with a piece of tape.

    • 4

Stand the tube on end, so all the short icicle strings are hanging parallel to the tube. Wrap the entire tube with plastic cling wrap to keep the strands in place.

    • 5

Lay the cardboard tubes flat in a long cardboard box or plastic tote. Place the lid on the tote, or close the flaps on the box and secure with tape.

    • 6

Label the container "Icicle Lights" to cut down on confusion during next year's decorating.

Tips & Warnings

  • For an extra layer of protection, wrap each tube of lights in bubble wrap before storing.
