How to Draw a Realistic Labrador
A Labrador is a larger breed of dogs, primarily for use with hunting and other easily trainable activities. Drawing a realistic Labrador does not have to be a difficult task, no matter how much experience you may have with this particular drawing. Select a group of pictures of this particular dog to assist you in creating some of the details that define each feature. Remain patient through each section, as the fine attention to detail and steady hand can help you create this dog exactly as it is pictured.
Instructions

-
1
Draw an oval-shaped guideline for the Labrador's head, making the width slightly larger than the height. Sketch out a smaller oval near the bottom of the basic head shape to act as a rough draft for the dog's snout.
-
2
Create a larger oval-like shape below the head of the dog, using the pictures to help you fashion the intended shape of this body. Use light pencil strokes to construct this almost peanut-shaped lower body.
-
-
3
Sketch vertical lines below the underside of the dog's body to outline the basic shapes to the legs. Be sure to create a slight bend in these legs in a realistic manner. Use light pencil strokes to roughly form these legs, as these are just guidelines.
-
4
Draw a rounded triangular shape at the end of the dog's snout to act as the nose of this animal. This triangular shape is upside-down in appearance, as the nostrils of the dog separate the bottom part of this facial feature.
-
5
Create an indented line underneath the nose of the Labrador to represent the upper lips, whereas this feature moves up slightly near the nose and falls around the side of each part of the snout. Use small, rigid lines to draw the lower part of the dog's mouth, creating a hairy texture to the jawbone.
-
6
Draw medium-sized triangles on either side of the dog's head to reflect the ears pictured in the reference guide. Labradors feature large, floppy ears, so these features might be draped over the side of the dog's face.
-
7
Draw two proportionally-positioned ovals above the dog's nose to act as the eyes. Create a small circle inside each one of these to represent the pupil of the eye. Use light pencil strokes to define the small eyebrows that surround these eyes, as depicted in the picture.
-
8
Use short, wispy lines down the backside of the Labrador's back to create the streamlined texture of this dog's coat. Use the same techniques for the chest area, moving down to each of the front legs. Draw the oval-like paws, dividing each one into equal sections to create the toes.
-
9
Draw the slightly curved line that represents the underside of the dog's body, keeping this line as straight as you can. Because this dog's hair is shorter than similar breeds, there is no need to go too crazy with the hairy details.
-
10
Draw a vertically-curved line into the rear portion of the dog's body to define the upper part of the hind leg. Make sure that the lower part of the dog's leg is appropriately positioned in accordance to the way the joints move. Draw the paw in the same way you sketched the front paws.
-
11
Draw two closely-positioned lines out from the rear end of this dog to act as the tail. These lines should come to a fine point before ending right above the ground.
-
12
Trace all necessary pencil lines that form this dog with an ink pen. Do not trace over any of the guidelines used to create this image, as they are not actually part of the drawing. Let the ink dry, then completely erase any remaining pencil marks from the page.
