How to Hold a Rave

Hold a rave that everyone will remember.

WIth blaring house music, a thumping bass, flashing lights and hoards of people dancing, a rave or dance party is bound to be a good time for people who love a loud, intense evening. Organizing and holding a rave party requires paying attention to a variety of details, from selecting the perfect venue to playing the right music. Holding a rave also requires the host to create an environment that captures the high energy and excitement of a club while providing a safe space for everyone.

1. Pick the perfect venue. While a remote place such as the desert or the middle of the woods has less of a chance of disturbing neighbors, other venues provide a better backdrop. Old warehouses, for instance, have an urban look and a certain mystique that is well-suited for a rave. Reserving a nightclub also ensures a venue that is ready for a rave with flashy lights and a killer sound system. Regardless of where you pick, be sure there is enough room for a large crowd of people.

2. Pick a DJ. Finding a DJ with a mastery of house and electronic club music is the key to holding a successful rave. While hosts looking to save some money can make a playlist of their favorite dance tunes, a DJ knows how to read the crowd and also keep the guests lively and the excitement high. Regardless of what you choose, be sure that the sound system can handle loud music ans a thumping bass.

3. Hire security. With a massive crowd of people drinking and dancing at a high energy event, it is not unusual for things to get out of hand. Security guards can maintain order by dealing with unruly party-goers, fights or any other crimes that may take place.

4. Hire other staff, too. Unless you're holding the rave at a nightclub that is already staffed, you will need bartenders to serve up beverages, bouncers to let people into the party and help security and janitors to keep the space clean and clean up any spills.

5. Spread the word about the rave. To get a large crowd to attend the rave, you must inform lots of people about the event. Send invitations through email and social networking sites, such as Facebook or Twitter. Also, make flyers and posters to let people know about the upcoming rave.

6. Decorate the space. Deck out the space in impressive visual effects such as lasers, strobe lights and fog machines. Hand out glow sticks to guests so they can light up the space themselves.
