How to Cancel an Account on Craigslist

Users cannot delete their own Craigslist account.

Craigslist is a popular online classified ad site where users can post items wanted or for sale at no cost. It is free to create a Craigslist account and to post ads. If you no longer want to use Craigslist, you might want to cancel your account. Unfortunately, Craigslist does not currently have a way for users to manually cancel their own accounts. You have two options for cancelling: contacting Craigslist's customer support, or deleting your e-mail address and letting the account expire.

Contacting Technical Support

1. Visit the "Contact Us" page on Craigslist.

2. Select the "tech support (general)" option from the list of choices given.

3. Fill in the required fields. Make sure you clearly state in the "describe the issue" box that you would like to cancel your account.

4. Wait for a response from a Craigslist representative. This could take awhile, depending on the number of inquiries they're already processing.

Deleting Your E-mail Address

1. Log in to your Craigslist account.

2. Click on the "Settings" tab.

3. Click the "change" link next to "email address."

4. Type in a bogus e-mail address, making sure that it does not belong to anyone. Because the e-mail address cannot be confirmed, the account will eventually expire.
