Unemployment agents are a phone call away.

When you file for unemployment benefits, a benefit year will be established. This benefit year will start on your filing date, and end exactly one year later. Under normal circumstances, this system works well because unemployment is capped at 26 weeks. However, when federal extensions to these benefits are in effect, you may qualify for additional weeks of benefits that may require you to claim unemployment for longer than your initial benefit year. In Tennessee, in order to continue receiving unemployment benefits after your benefit year has ended, you must file a new claim to redetermine your eligibility.

Instructions

    • 1

File a new claim application online. Go to the Tennessee Labor and Workforce Development's unemployment applications website and click on the "Apply For Unemployment" tab. Read through the criteria and privacy statement and click on the "Continue" button. Fill out the new application and then click to submit it.

Call to speak to an unemployment claims representative to reestablish your benefits. They can be reached at 877-813-0950. Tell the agent your benefit year has expired and you wish to file a new claim to establish your continued eligibility. The agent can complete the entire application process right over the phone.
