Choosing a strong password minimizes the risk of having your email hacked.

There are few feelings as unnerving as realizing that your email account has been hacked. The first sign of a hacked account is usually the inability to sign in. This can usually be quickly remedied by resetting your password. However, if the hacker has been smart, they may have changed some of your account details, making it difficult for you to regain access. Luckily, Google offers an Account Recovery form that will help you to get your account back.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit Gmail's Password Recovery page. Enter your email into the "Email address" text field. Click "Submit." A password reset email will be sent to your alternate email address. If you do not have an alternate email address, you will be asked a series of security questions. If you are still unable to access your account after resetting the password, or if your security questions have been changed, continue to step 2.

Fill our Google's Account Recovery form. Be as detailed as possible with your answers. Google's customer support team won't give you access to your account if you're vague about your personal details. In order to fill out the form, you will need a current non-Gmail email address, your last working password, and the date which you first started using Google. If you're not sure about the date, fill in your best estimate.

Click the "Submit" button to send in the Account Recovery form. A Google customer service representative will be in touch with you via your alternate email address as soon as possible.
