How to Make a Misa Costume

How to Make a Misa Costume thumbnail
Become the anime character, Misa, this Halloween!

Handmade costumes offer endless possibilities in design and creativity. Sometimes, manufactured costumes are not available in designs of characters from TV shows or cartoons, so learning how to create the costume may be necessary. A costume that may not appear in popular costume stores is for the character, Misa, from the anime show, "Death Note". With a little creativity and imagination, however, a handmade Misa costume can be constructed in time for Halloween, a costume parade or the next anime party.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a shiny black bodice made of leather or simulated leather.

    • 2

Buy or create the black ruffled skirt. To make the skirt, start with two yards of black, lightweight shiny fabric. Sew the short sides of the fabric together.

    • 3

Make the waistband of the skirt by folding the top of the fabric over, with the overlapping flap on the inside of the skirt. Pin the flap down and be sure to make it about an inch wide. Stitch the waistband closed.

    • 4

Measure the waist of the costume wearer with a tape measure and cut a piece of black elastic 2 inches longer than the waist measurement. Use a safety pin attached to one end of the elastic to guide the elastic through the waistband flap. Sew the pieces of elastic together.

    • 5

Try the skirt on the costume wearer and hem the bottom to the desired length.

    • 6

Accessorize Misa's costume with long black lace gloves that fit snugly just under the shoulder and extend to the wrist. Find matching black lace or fishnet stockings that attach to a black lace garter belt.

    • 7

Add a pair of black lace-up calf-high combat boots. Complete the look with a black ribbon choker necklace and bright red nail polish and lipstick.

    • 8

Replicate Misa's hairstyle; tease the hair with a teasing comb to add volume. Pull sections of the hair up and brush the hair down towards the scalp until it clumps up with volume. Leave the bottom layer teased up but smooth the top layer down with the comb.

    • 9

Section off a 2-inch piece of hair on each side of the face. Gather the hair into a high pigtail on each side, behind the loose 2-inch section of hair framing the face. Use a brown hair band to tie each pigtail up.

    • 10

Spray with a strong hairspray to ensure the style stays in place.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure the skirt is hemmed short enough to expose the lace garter belt.

  • The hairstyle can be created using a blond wig if the costume wearer does not have blond hair.
