How to Make a Triangle With 7 Tangrams

An endless number of shapes, designs and polygons can be constructed using a set of tangrams. Tangrams are an ancient Chinese puzzle containing two large right triangles, two small right triangles, one medium-sized right triangle, one small square and a parallelogram. From letters and animals to boats and geometric shapes, these seven pieces can be combined on a flat surface to display almost anything the imagination desires. Create one large triangle from these seven pieces.

Instructions

    • 1

Arrange the two large right triangles with the right angle facing the top and away from you on your work surface. Slide the two large triangles together so they are touching. The lower left acute angle of one triangle is touching the lower right acute angle of the other appearing as two mountains, side by side.

    • 2

Slide one of the small triangles, right angle pointing down and toward you, to fill the lower part of the gap created by the two large touching triangles.

    • 3

Lay the parallelogram so that one long edge is on the top of the longest exposed edge of the small triangle, filling that two-large-triangle gap even more. Slide the parallelogram so that the short edge is touching the side of the triangle on the right.

    • 4

Use the small square, positioned as a diamond, inserted between the slanted short edge of the parallelogram and the remaining side of the large triangle on the left.

    • 5

Turn the medium-sized triangle so that the right angle is pointing low and left, and place it directly on top of the open side of the parallelogram, creating half of the created triangle point. Insert the final small triangle, right angle pointing directly to the left side, to the left of the medium-sized triangle to complete the enlarged tangram triangle.
