How to Draw a Cute And Easy Puppy

Labrador puppies are good subjects for drawings.

Puppies are juvenile dogs known for the playfulness and zest for life. In a drawing, the facial characteristics of puppies that render them different from older dogs include large eyes and noses, floppy ears and slack posture. Once a puppy's basic features have been sketched, further bring them to life by coloring and shading.

Instructions

1. Draw a large circle to represent the head.

2. Lightly draw a vertical line down the center of the circle. Mark a horizontal line one-third of the way up this line and another one two-third of the way up. These are the guidelines for the facial features and can be rubbed out later.

3. Sketch an oval for the head to rest on. This represents the puppy's body and should be slightly smaller than the head. The puppy will look as if it's sitting if the longest part of the oval is at the bottom, and standing if the shortest part of the oval is at the bottom.

4. Draw two circles either side of the oval. These represent the hind paws and the diameter of each should be equal to the radius of the head. The bottom of the circles should be slightly lower than the bottom of the body.

5. Mark the puppy's features using the facial guidelines drawn previously. Draw a circle with a center where the bottom horizontal guideline crosses the vertical guideline. The circle represents the nose and should be about half the size of the circles used for the feet.

6. Draw jowls either side of the nose. Start from the center line at the top of the nose and move downward and left about 45 degrees. Curve the line round when outside the edge of the face and bring it back inside the circle to meet the bottom of the nose at the center line. Repeat this process to create the right jowl.

7. Sketch a curved line beneath the two jowls that runs parallel to the circle drawn for the face. This forms the puppy's chin.

8. Use the topmost horizontal guideline to draw the puppy's eyes. This line forms the center of two circles drawn either side of the vertical center line. The eyes should be half the size of the nose.

9. Start a line from the top of the head, just above the left eye. Bring the line downward and outward and draw an inward curving banana-shape with the bottom of the banana level with the bottom of the noise. Repeat the process on the other side of the head. These shapes form the puppy's ears.

10. Start a line from the bottom of the left jowl. Curve it downward and outward so that it meets the leftmost part of the body. Continue the line further down so that it is below the level of the hind paws. Curve it round so that it meets the bottom of the body just left of the center line. Bring the line up inside the body, stopping about halfway up the body. The forms the front left paw. Repeat this process for the right paw.

11. Rub out the facial guidelines and the lines inside the jowls, chin, ears and front paws.
